THE STAR OF THE SHOW

Ah, Lincoln Center , arguably the cultural Epicenter of the world. This sprawling 16 acre

complex features over 30 indoor and outdoor facilities, presenting the very best in music, art ,

theater and culture. It is the home of The New York Ballet, The Metropolitan Opera, the

prestigious Julliard School of Music and ……the best  pizza in New York. Well not there but

across the street. Now this is just one  (ha) humble man's opinion. It must be said that I indeed

have not  yet sampled all the pizza in New York , though I have waited for 2 hours at Lucali’s in

Brooklyn if that counts  ( don’t bother). So if your only experience of culture lately  comes from

that large tub of Chobani (pun) in the back of the fridge , double click on that hard to locate

Open Table App ( if you are not banned for being a no show, hey happens not my fault) and

make an early dinner reservation at Cafe Fiorello (1900 Broadway, NY).  Know that you are not

alone. Of the 5 million people that visit Lincoln Center it seems like 4 million are eating here.

This is a very popular spot but with good reason and yes it is a bit of a madhouse and yes the

tables are the size of a postage stamp (they really need to get smaller menus) But  the entrees

are super delicious and gigantic. The  Cafe Fiorello Lasagna with meatballs and burrata is a foot

long plate of savory goodness ,while expensive  ($39) it did not seem to deter the plethora of

pre theatergoers from attempting to demolish  it (impossible) . Likewise the Chicken Milanese

Picatta Style , a light and tasty cutlet so large , it had us wondering if there is  a gigantic race of

chickens roaming the earth that  we are  totally unaware of. BTW for those attempting to behave

themselves, there is a great vegetable antipasto bar with 18 choices. But undeniably , the star of

the day was Fiorello's thin crust pizza. Thin but not matzoh. Now being a protein guy, it is very

rare for me to order pizza over a choice of other entrees but in  my mind's eye I remembered  it

being outstanding. After some deliberation and soul searching I settled on The Sweet Fennel

Sausage with Burrata Mozzarella , well done. It arrived crisp but not dense with just the right

amount of undercarriage. It was  absolutely so delicious , I did not know what to say . Even

now ,  I just can't stop thinking about it. I brought the day old leftovers to my  daughter in law

to warm up and she said ,”Oh my god , I would just like to bury my face forever in a giant bowl

of that sausage.” So you can tell your friends that you are going uptown to visit  Lincoln Center

(you know a little culture wouldn't kill ya) . You don’t have to tell them who the star of the show

Is. Hey even great Patrons Of The Arts need to eat . Just saying
